Child led sessions

I will never expect a child to sit still and stare at the camera during the session. Of course everyone wants a few pictures with everyone smiling at the camera, and I am here to help with that! I will be so silly behind the camera to get your kiddos to look at me and pop a smile. I encourage the adults to always look at the camera, and I will work my magic to get the kiddos to look at me! I do love to follow the child's lead during photo sessions. It is developmentally appropriate for a child to want to run around and get all of their energy out. They want to move their bodies, be silly, and run around! Below, I will list different prompts that will help us navigate through your family session.

Family Session Prompts

  1. Look at nature. Encourage the kiddos to touch, smell, and count the flowers or grass blades around them.
  2. Tickles! This always gets the best smiles and giggles. No need to look at the camera, smile down at your kiddo while you are giving them tickles and snuggles!
  3. Walking towards the camera while holding hands. There are many different variations of this that kiddos love! I love to turn this into a game of red light green light.
  4. Follow the leader! This is like the prompt above, expect you will be walking parallel with the photographer, and not towards the camera. Hold hands and pretend that you are going on an adventure! You can take turns with who is leading the group.
  5. Ring around the Rosie. Parents snuggle in the middle and let the kiddos run circles around you. This is a great way to let them get their energy out if they are wanting to run!
  6. Sharing secrets. Kids will say the silliest things. Have them whisper a secret to a sibling, or parents. This will most likely lead to some great smiles and giggles!
  7. Counting toes. This is a super cute prompts if you have a baby, and an older child. Get the older kiddo to count the toes of the baby. This makes for some super cute detail shots!
  8. Giving kisses. Ask the kiddos to give someone lots of kisses and encourage everyone to smiles at the person receiving the kisses. Give the child a choice like, "would you like to give mom or dad some kisses?"
  9. Dancing! This can also have so many variations. You can snuggle your little one, and slow dance together. Someone can be twirled in a circle. This prompts captures the most precious and natural moments.
